Post mortem to probe child stabbings
Pathologists were expected to carry out post mortem examinations on two young children who were stabbed to death in south London over the weekend, Scotland Yard said on Monday.
"A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out later today or tomorrow," a spokeswoman told AFP.
The two children, a five-year-old boy and his four-year-old sister were taken to hospital with stab wounds on Friday night but died shortly before midnight.
A six-month-old baby girl was also stabbed and remains in "critical but stable condition", the spokeswoman said.
Police said a 35-year-old woman, believed to be the children's mother, has been detained under the Mental Health Act and moved to a secure unit.
The woman was detained on Friday after police were called out to the family home in Carshalton in south London.
The woman's husband was also detained by police and released on bail on Sunday.
The family, believed to be from Sri Lanka, moved into the area last year.
