Air Force destroy 3 LTTE nerve centers in Wanni

Sri Lanka Air Force carried out 3 historic air missions targeting 3 of the LTTE's most vital nerve centers in the Wanni during last few hours, said the defence sources.

According to Air Force spokesperson , Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, the first of the triple air raids was carried out last midnight targeting the LTTE's Sea Tiger forward operating base at Nagasivanthurai in Poonaryn.

"LTTE occupations near Nagasivanthurai Jetty , a Radar point and a boatyard was destroyed in this mission carried out by MI 24 helicopters", he said. Speaking further the said that the target was operated as a forward reconnaissance centre by the LTTE.

The defence intelligence sources said that the targeted location has gained highest strategic importance in LTTE's military plans of late, aimed at avoiding the impending military defeat.

The second air raid was conducted by fighter jets at 9.55 AM targeting the main operation centre of the LTTE's intelligence wing located at Iranapalai, North of Puthukkudiyiruppu, in the Mullaittiuvu district. According to the defence intelligence sources, the target was one of the most secured terror base with the highest strategic importance to the LTTE.

Air Force spokesperson citing after-mission reports confirmed the target was destroyed.

Kasargod: Subsidized Kerosene Diverted to LTTE from State?

The additional director general of police, Kerala intelligence wing, through an information sent to the police stations located in Kasargod and Kannur districts of the state, has shared with them the information, that a part of the subsides kerosene the government is supplying to the fishermen of the districts, is being sold to LTTE cadres for fuelling their activities.

The intelligence wing has learnt that Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE) wants fuel to power its boats and that it has engaged agents in these districts to collect kerosene and pass on the same to the LTTE. The police have learnt that such agents have been active in places like Talangare, Bekal and Ayikal.

Many fishermen are frustrated to learn that huge quantities of this scarce commodity, for getting which they have to struggle a lot, is being sold at a premium to LTTE. It may be noted that the blue kerosene which as per rules, is sold only through ration shops for nine rupees a litre, is available for sale in other shops for around Rs 25 per litre.

Boats of Tamil fishermen from Srilanka who are sympathetic to the LTTE cause, come near the sea shores of Trivendrum and other places. The middlemen are believed to be supplying kerosene to the LTTE through these boats.

In the recent past, policemen have been able to confiscate huge stocks of illegally stored kerosene from various spots. 1,400 litres of kerosene had been seized by them recently from a house in Anangoor and arrested a person. This was subsidized kerosene. The police are keeping an eye on other suspects and continuing with their investigations.

Top LTTE cadre arrested -CHENNAI

A top functionary of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was taken into custody here on Wednesday. Following specific inputs given by the State intelligence, the ’Q’ Branch police apprehended J. Thambi Annan alias Daniel (46) of Killinochi. “It is a very important catch. He is placed high in the LTTE’s hierarchy. Daniel was heading the procurement module of the outfit in Sri Lanka,” Director-General of Police (Law and Order) K.P. Jain told The Hindu on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Daniel played an instrumental role in procuring major consignments, including explosive substances, for the banned organisation from India and other parts of the world. He was involved in the attempts to smuggle consignments of aluminium ingots and ball bearings, which were intercepted and seized by the police in Ramanathapuram and Madurai districts in the recent months, the sources said, adding that the ‘Q’ Branch police would take custody of the Sri Lankan national, whose confessions could give leads to the source and supply network of the LTTE.

Air Force Fighter Jets destroy training camp of LTTE suicide bombers

Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets bombed a training facility of LTTE suicide bombers also known as Black Tigers located in the Iranamadu area, 3km southeast of Kilinochchi this morning (July 30).

Air Force spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara speaking to defence.lk confirmed that the terror camp was destroyed in the air raid carried out at 6.35 AM. He said, citing fighter pilots that the camp was in flames after the bombing mission.

Meanwhile, defence intelligence sources said the targeted "Black Tiger" camp was operated directly under guidance of LTTE's notorious intelligence wing leader Pottu Amman. The target was obtained after receiving real time ground information that an activity of suicide bombers was going on at the camp, said the sources. The exact location of the target was in the Thirivaiaru area , just 3 Km off from the LTTE's main stronghold at Kilinochchi, the sources added.

LTTE is a ruthless terror outfit fighting for a mono ethnic separate homeland for the Tamils in Sri Lanka since 1983. The organizations operates under extreme tribal ideologies created by its megalomaniac leader V. Prabhakaran and has unleashed one of the most barbaric terrorist wars in the world against the citizens of Sri Lanka.

Downfall

July 29, 2008: The generals believe that the LTTE is just about finished. Army intelligence estimates that the LTTE has lost two thirds of its military power this year. That includes 9,000 fighters, most of them newly conscripted teenagers. Between losing territory, and Tamils fleeing to government controlled territory, the LTTE only controls about 200,000 civilians in the north.

The army believes the LTTE only has about 5,000 armed fighters, and most of these are recently conscripted and poorly trained. The LTTE is also short on ammunition, because of the improved navy interdiction campaign during the last year. The fighting in the north is getting more intense, and causing several hundred casualties a week. But most of these are LTTE losses, and the army has been advancing at the rate of about three kilometers a week.

The typical combat is army troops versus LTTE fighters defending their earth and log bunkers. The LTTE conscripts are kept in line by the few "cadres" (veteran LTTE fighters) still alive. There are believed to be a thousand or so cadres left, including the few hundred LTTE elite commandos. The army believes that the LTTE will be crushed by the end of the year, and are confident enough to say so out loud.

Air intelligence confirms 22 LTTE suicide bombers killed in air raid - Mullaittiuvu

Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara speaking to defence.lk said that 22 LTTE suicide bombers (Black Tigers ) were killed in the air raid carried out this morning (July 22) at the Uddayarkattukulam LTTE camp.

Citing Air Force intelligence sources , he said that the group of the slain LTTE cadres had been engaged in a rehearsal of a major suicide operation at the time of the air raid.

Air Force fighter jets launched an air strike targeting pre identified LTTE special operation training facility located Northeast of Uddayarkattukulam in the Mullaittiuvu district around 8.15a.m.

The Air Force sources said, targeted camp was providing training for LTTE cadres in special operations and in leadership for the terror leaders. Activities in the terror camp had a significant increase recently, the sources added.

LTTE is the terror outfit that pioneered the suicide bombing tactics to the world. The outfit has been using brainwashed youth, mostly women and teenagers to commit suicide as human bombs. LTTE select these youths from orphanages or recruit those who have undergone gender or cast discrimination promising them to redeem their dignity by dieing for the tribal cause.

Trincomalee LTTE Intelligence Leader Confirmed Killed

The Tiger (LTTE) terrorist, gunned down by the Army troops this morning (19) in MANACHCHENA, east of NEELAPOLA in TRINCOMALEE was confirmed to be the LTTE’s intelligence wing leader for TRINCOMALEE, named SOUNDRARAJAN alias THANGAN.

He had been entrusted the clandestine operation since January, this year after his predecessor, ARI CHELVAM was slain by the Army some time back.

He had infiltrated this crowded area to create chaos with the intention of disrupting normalcy in the peaceful areas in the east.

During a clearing operation in the east of NEELAPOLA, TRINCOMALEE on Thursday (19) morning at about 9.45 a.m. troops gunned down one terrorist and recovered one 9-mm pistol and two magazines from his possession.

Sri Lanka Says Intelligence Reveals Rebels Divided (Update1)

The leadership of the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam is divided, Sri Lanka's Defense Ministry said, citing intelligence reports that the head of the group's peace secretariat is under house arrest.

Seevaratnam Prabaharan, also known as Puleedevan, was detained recently on the orders of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, the ministry said on its Web site.

``According to information received from defense intelligence authorities, the arrest has been made as a result of a worsening internal dispute among key LTTE figures,'' the ministry said. Telephone calls to the peace secretariat weren't answered today.

The Tamil Tigers, who have been fighting for a separate Tamil homeland in northern and eastern Sri Lanka for 25 years, hold their last remaining bases in the north after losing control of Eastern Province last July. Sri Lanka's army and air force have targeted LTTE leaders, killing the head of its political wing in November.

The LTTE's Peace Secretariat issued a statement late yesterday highlighting an army attack that it said killed six civilians near Mullaitivu in the north.

LTTE rejects claims about Peace Secretary's house arrest

The LTTE has dismissed claims that the Director of its 'Peace Secretariat' has been put under house arrest on the direction of the outfit's chief V Prabhakaran, terming such reports as "propaganda" by the Sri Lankan government.

"This is a propaganda of the Sri Lankan government. (Seevaratnam) Pulidevan (LTTE Peace Secretariat director) continues to work in the same position," Tamil Tigers' political head B Nadesan was quoted as saying in a report.

He was reacting to a Defence Ministry report which cited sources in the rebel stronghold of Wanni to say that Pulidevan, the so called "peace secretary" of the LTTE, had been placed under house arrest "on direct orders" of Prabhakaran.

"According to information received from defence intelligence authorities, the arrest has been made as a result of a worsening internal dispute among key LTTE figures," the ministry report said.

It quoted sources as saying that an armed gang led by LTTE's intelligence wing leader Pottu Amman had made the arrest a few days back.

Five suicide jackets found; suspect detained - Chilaw

Police acting on an information received from intelligence sources found 5 jackets designed for the LTTE suicide bombers from Maina Doopatha (an islet) in the Chilaw area this evening (May 30). According to the police sources, only four out of the five jackets were filled with high explosives.

Police said the jackets were unearthed from a location close to an abandoned Hindu Temple around 6.30 pm. A person was also detained for further inquiries, the sources added.

LTTE is the terror outfit that pioneered the suicide terrorism and introduced recruitment, brainwashing, and technical expertise for suicide bombing to the terrorist organizations in the world over. It has carried out over 200 suicide attacks killing hundreds of people during its two and half decades of terrorist war against Sri Lankan citizens.

The arrests that upset terror-supporting media

A local TV station in its evening news telecast yesterday (February 25), reported that an unidentified gang that had come in a white van abducted a person named Muththusami Ilankoowan alias Sami at Pettah, Colombo on the same day evening.

According to this TV station the person who was a holder of a Singaporean passport had been accommodated at a hotel on Kadireshan road before getting "disappeared".

Media personnel of this TV station who seemed to have got the first hand information on this "disappearance", quickly inquired from the police media spokesman who was only able inform them what he knew at the time.

Later, the police spokesperson informed relevant media station that the person that it was referring as disappeared was actually a suspect arrested by the police. However, the media station carried out the same story spinning it as an abduction that carried out by the government giving less prominence to the police spokesman's clarification.

A senior intelligence official speaking exclusively to defence.lk said that Muththusami Ilankoowan is a number one LTTE terrorist who is suspected to have a hand in many civilian massacres carried out by LTTE in the south. Muttusami, is a Sri Lankan born Tamil, who has strong connection with terror chief V.Prbhakaran, and also with LTTE's international wing leaders such as Castro , Kumaran Padmanadan, David and Iyyanna.

Air Strike on Sea Tiger Base; 10 cadres killed

Air Force pounded on the Sea Tiger base located in Kilinochchi West in KIRANCHI using fighter jet aircraft on February 22, around 8.15 a.m. Consequently naval intelligence sources revealed that it was a women’s Sea Tiger training camp and that ten terrorists including self-styled Lt. Colonel Kalai Arasi a female Sea tiger instructor Major Thuwarika and Lt. Senthamani were killed and 09 were wounded.

Kalai Arasi is also the custodian of the LTTE Sea Tiger fighter craft called “Surali” to which 02, 200 HP engines are fixed. Many LTTE fighter crafts had been damaged by Air Force bombing.

Further naval intelligence revealed this location covering 2 KM area has been declared by the LTTE as a High Security Zone to which civilians are prohibited from entering.

Four held for smuggling

The Intelligence sleuths seized large quantities of goods meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka and arrested five people, including a Lankan national, in this connection, here today.

Police sources said during routine surveillance along the Ramanathapuram Coast, Intelligence sleuths intercepted two youths riding a motorcycle at Sogaiyanthoppu sea shore on suspicion.

When the police were questioning the youths after seizing their cell a speeding Maruti Omni suddenly came to the area. The sleuths intercepted the van too and questioned its two inmates.

During a check, the police found 2,000 empty gunny bags, five doctor's coats, a large number of hand gloves, five facial cream tubes, five Churidhar dress sets and caps concealed in the van.

Interrogation revealed the goods were meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka.

Even as the sleuths were interrogating the four people, a mini- lorry managed to speed away on seeing the police.

Sri Lankan army team on secret mission in Pune

A high-level team of officers from the Sri Lanka military intelligence corps (MIC) and army were brought stealthily into Pune five days ago for advanced intelligence training at Indian Army's various high-security institutions here.

The initial phase of the training at the National Defence Academy (NDA) got over on Friday. The team is expected to be briefed on advanced electronic warfare, command, control, communications and computer intelligence at the Military Intelligence Training School and Depot (MITSD), the only institution of the Indian Army which imparts training in all aspects of intelligence.

The secret visit comes as a precursor to the setting up of an intelligence training school in the island nation, which has been battling the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels for 25 years.

The visit assumes added significance in the backdrop of recent statements by chief of naval staff Admiral Suresh Mehta that Indian Navy and Coast Guard had shared intelligence regarding movement of LTTE Sea Tiger boats in the Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar.

Air Force bangs at LTTE's Sea Tiger nerve centre - Mullaithivu

Air Force fighter jets pounded one of the nerve centers of sea tiger Wing at Kaivelikulam North West of Puthukkudiyiruppu this afternoon (Saturday the 26th of January).

According to the Air Force sources, fighter jets have carried out air sorties at 1.05 p.m. targeting a covert meeting of sea tiger leaders and the attack has been carried out on real time ground intelligence, the sources further added.

Fighter pilots have confirmed that the target was accurately hit.

Ban parties openly supporting LTTE: Congress

Expressing concern over reported rise in LTTE activities in Tamil Nadu,the Congress on Thursday asked the State Government to ban political parties and organisations which were openly supporting the proscribed outfit.

Participating in a discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address to the assembly, C Gnanasekaran (Cong) cited reports that 102 LTTE cadre had infiltrated into the state during the last two years and cases had been filed against 40 of them under the National Security Act.

Recalling the recent arrest of LTTE intelligence wing leader Thambidurai Parameswaran and others, who allegedly attempted to procure arms and material for the LTTE, he questioned the "inaction" of the state's intelligence.

He said the LTTE should be viewed in two phases -- before and after the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The scar over Rajiv Gandhi's assassination still remained among Congressmen, he said and urged the Chief Minister to take steps to extradite LTTE chief V Prabhakaran, the prime accused in the case, against whom a non-bailable warrant was pending.

Stating that the LTTE had also killed several Tamils, Gnanasekaran wondered how some parties and organisations in the state were openly supporting the outfit.

Heavy LTTE casualties in air strike

It was only yesterday (24th) when Sri Lanka Air Force used 6 of its fighter jets to raid a major LTTE military facility deep inside the jungles east of Iranamadu. More details are now surfacing regarding the aftermath of one of the most devastating air strikes in the Eelam War 4.

According to military intelligence reports, hospitals in Kilinochchi are being filled with wounded LTTE cadres. Intel reports suggest that a significant number of cadres from Prabhakaran's elite guard unit, the Imran-Pandiyan regiment, are among the wounded.

However there is still no confirmation on any injuries caused to LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran. The pilots who took part in the raid could not confirm if anti aircraft fire was directed at their planes or not. LTTE usually places its truck mounted 14.5mm AA batteries in close proximity to LTTE leader's hideouts in fear of air strikes. If AA fire was absent when the attack occurred it may be an indication of LTTE leader having just left the scene prior to bombing. This however is a wild guess as of this moment.

SLAF used 24 bunker buster bombs to attack the X-Ray base, razing its buildings to dust in a matter of minutes.

Air Force raids "X-ray base"; terrorists' nerve center in Kilinochchi

Sri Lanka air force fighter jets have raided the terror hub in Kilinochchi, known as "X-ray base" around 11.15, this morning (January 23). Air Force fighter jets in a low flying mission have targeted the base located East of Iranamadu Tank in the Kalmadukulama area, with the pin point accuracy, air force sources said.

According to Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Andi Wijesoriya, the air sorties were carried out on information obtained through real-time air surveillance and ground reconnaissance. Also, he said that the targeted location has been a regular visiting place of terror chief V. Prabhakaran.

Fighter pilots have confirmed that the target was accurately hit, he added.

Defence intelligence sources said that the air raid was timed with a "special" activity that was going on at the LTTE base. However, the sources refrained from commenting further on the issue. Also, the sources said, the targeted terror hub was located in a thick jungle patch, North of LTTE's "runway" in Iranamadu. The area has been long demarcated as a "high security zone" and a "no go" area for civilians, the sources added.

LTTE is a ruthless terrorist outfit that has been fighting for a mono ethnic separate homeland for Tamils in Sri Lanka since 1983. Last week, LTTE terrorists butchered 47 people in the Monaragala and Thanamalwila areas at the behest of their psychopathic leader V.Prabhakaran.
