LTTE heading for its waterloo - TDNA

The current military operations by the security forces in the Wanni have weakened the LTTE terribly and reports from Kilinochchi indicate that the outfit is in complete dissaray as they are unable to face the advancing troops, the Tamil Democratic National Alliance (TDNA) delegation led by Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) Leader Veerasingam Anandasangari told the visiting European Union delegation.

PLOTE leader Dharmalingam Sitharthan who was associated with the TULF leader at the discussions with the EU delegation said that he insisted on the necessity of a constructive political solution to defeat the LTTE politically as well.

They also briefed the EU Parliamentarians on the human rights violations carried out by the LTTE by staging ruthless attacks on civilian targets in the North as well as in the South.

The TDNA confirmed that the Security Forces were gaining control in the LTTE’s last bastion Wanni and the outfit was heading towards its `Waterloo’, when the European Union Parliamentarians met the TDNA members in Colombo on Friday.

The TULF leader who headed the three party alliance, comprising the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (Naba) told the Sunday Observer that his alliance briefed the European Union delegation on the present situation in the Wanni.

“During our discussion with the European Union Parliamentary delegation led by Robert Evans, we told them that the LTTE was now not in a position to continue with their armed struggle. Therefore, the outfit with its limited resources is heading for its `Waterloo’.

Take LTTE to Task Now, Anandasangaree Urges International Community

V. Anandasangaree,President of the President TULF strongly condemned the bomb attack on innocent civilians in Colombo by the terrorist LTTE. He called upon international community to take the ruthless terrorists to task for this barbaric act. Hhe pointed out that that within two days of the assassination of Ms. Maheswary Velauthan of the EPDP, the LTTE has once again shown its atrocious feat in the heart of Colombo.

As usual Prabaharan has selected an innocent family to provide a suicide bomber for the game he plays off and on and thoroughly enjoys the killings of the innocents. He added, once again it is somebody else’s brainwashed child had sacrificed himself without any known protest neither from the suicide-bomber’s parents nor from any one of the TNA Members of Parliament who are although proxies of the LTTE, in name elected by the people.

I am not asking the TNA Members to sacrifice their own children. My only worry is as to why they can’t lodge a strong protest against human sacrifices by the LTTE. That is all I am asking. I strongly condemn the LTTE for playing with human lives."

He said that Ten innocent people some of whom are police officers, have died and over eighty-five seriously injured. How many more will die will not be known for a few days and by the time the exact figure is made known, more similar incidents would have taken place.

Save innocent civilians from LTTE - Anandasangaree

I strongly condemn the explosion in a C.T.B bus at Piliyandala that took the lives of 26 innocent civilians and left over 60 seriously injured. This is undoubtedly another savage act of the blood thirsty LTTE, TULF leader V. Anandasangaree stated yesterday.

Is it with these barbarians that the International Community wants the Government to start talks with? In all seriousness I wish to pose a question to the International Community as to what it intends to do with the people who had fled their traditional places of residence for fear of the LTTE and are living with the Sinhalese and the Muslims peacefully in the South, he said a news release.

Also I wish to know what the fate is going be of those in the Eastern Province, just liberated and of those who fled the country out of fear for the LTTE and wanting to return when peace is restored.

Government in a hurry over polls: TULF

he Sri Lankan military on Sunday said the number of LTTE cadres and the soldiers killed in Saturday’s battles in the north had gone up to 52 and eight respectively. Meanwhile, Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) chief V. Anandasangree charged the Mahinda Rajapaksa government with going ahead with elections to the eastern province in a “great hurry”.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Rajapaksa, the TULF leader argued that free and fair elections were not feasible until all “armed groups are disarmed.”

The immediate provocation for the missive is the reported decision to re-deploy sections of the Special Task Force (STF) from the Amparai district.

However, the government has termed reports on the re-deployment in a section of the local media as “misleading” saying only a few units of the STF were being pulled out for deployment in the northern battle front. Mr. Anandasangree said there was no doubt that the East had been liberated but not cleared fully of the LTTE problem.

Anandasangaree demands LTTE to take full responsibility for the killing of MP Sivanesan and his driver

In a strongly worded statement V.Anandasangaree, demanded the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam led by Velupillai Prabakaran to take complete responsibility for the killing of Kiddinan Sivanesan the Tamil Nation Alliance member of parliament of the Jaffna district and his driver Maheswararajah, in Vanni on 06 March.

While condemning the killing of Sivanesan and his driver Maheswararajah, Anandasangaree has posed pertinent question to the LTTE to response regarding these killings.

According to the statement of the TULF President, the said incident had taken place about 2 miles from Mankulam on the A9 road and about 190 miles from Colombo. Of these 190 miles he points out that about 170 miles fall within the Government controlled areas and therefore under the army’s control.

He said that no man with any sense will say that the penetrating unit went into the LTTE held areas to a distance of about 20 miles from the defense line to plant the claymore mine, when they had 170 miles of the highway under their command. Anandasangaree alleged that it was by such type of silly accusations that the LTTE and the TNA Members had lost their credibility.

He adds, “No one believes their stories because their political honesty is questionable.”

Anandasangaree deplores aerial attack on civilians at Poonakari

While deploring the aerial attack on Kiranchi, Poonakari, which led to the civilian casualties, V. Anandasangaree, President of the Tamil United Liberation Front pointed out that Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam was blood thirsty and is all out to shed innocent blood and what they wanted is a “backlash.”

In a statement, Anandasangaree said, I am deeply concerned about the civilian casualties in this aerial attack in which men, women and small children numbering eight were killed and fourteen injured, some of whom are very serious and awaiting at the Kilinochchi Hospital to be transferred for specialized treatment elsewhere.

He said that he did not dispute the fact that there was a Sea Tiger base, may be along the coast. He added, “What I wish to know is whether it is the fault of the innocent civilians if the LTTE cowardly and foolishly locate their base in the midst of civilian population?”

Anandasangaree emphasized in a similar situation it was obligatory on the part of the Government Forces to safeguard the civilians at any cost.

India should put pressure on LTTE: TULF chief

The international community, especially India, should put pressure on the LTTE to refrain from killing innocent civilians in Sri Lanka, a senior Tamil politician has said.

"The time has now come for India to step in and tell the LTTE to keep hands off civilians," Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) president V Anandasangaree said.

"The LTTE's only hope now is to unleash fresh violence for which the Sinhalase are not prepared," he said in a statement from London.

"I condemn every killing. I believe that no one has any right to take the life of another," he said.

"It (the killings) will not take them (LTTE) anywhere. Instead they lose their credibility day by day. It is high time the international community warn the LTTE to refrain from causing the death of innocent civilians," he said.

He criticised the Tamil media in Lanka for not being categorical in blaming the LTTE for the killings of civilians in the country.

TULF condemns 'LTTE's brutal and cowardly act'

Condemning the claymore attack in Okkampitiya that took the lives of 26 people and injured over 60 others last morning, V. Anandasangaree, President of the Tamil United Liberation Front, state in a media release it was a 'brutal and cowardly act' perpetrated by the LTTE.

He also said that 'it is high time that the LTTE stop killing innocent civilians which is not going to serve any purpose other than infuriating the International Community, which is fast losing patience'.

Mr. Anandasangaree pointed out that there should be no place for ferocious animals in human society.

"I have more than once found fault with the media, particularly the Tamil media all over the world for their failure to condemn these ruthless activities of the LTTE. Their failure to do so, in one way amounts to encouraging the LTTE to terrorise the civilians more and more. Some human rights activists too make the same mistake. I call upon all people whichever community they belong to, the media, human rights organizations and heads of all political partieis, including the TNA to condemn this ruthless act and to urge the LTTE to spare the innocent village folks who depend on each other in their family for survival."

CFA abrogation unmasks LTTE - TULF leader

The Tamil United Liberation Front leader Veerasingam Anandasangaree welcoming the decision to abrogate the Ceasefire Agreement said that the agreement only helped the LTTE to expand its terrorist activities and to blindfold the international community.

Anandasangaree commenting on the abrogation of the CFA told the 'Sunday Observer' that the CFA should have been scrapped when the LTTE went beyond its limits. "The CFA was introduced to streamline the peace process.

Not only Sri Lankans even the international community expected the CFA to work effectively. But the LTTE had committed the bulk of the CFA violations. The CFA allowed the organisation to carry out the political activities in the cleared areas. But instead of concentrating on political matters, the outfit was planning its war strategies within the cleared areas to launch its attacks against the Security Forces," Sangaree said.

`India should balance interests of Tamils, its security`

India should strike a "balance" between its efforts to secure rights of Tamils and protect its own security interests in Sri Lanka by preventing Pakistan and China from getting a "foothold" in Colombo, a senior Tamil politician from the island nation said here.

Pakistan and China wooed Mahinda Rajapakse government with defence cooperation offers to fight LTTE, requiring India to strike a balance, Tharmalingam Sitharthan, heading the Peoples Liberation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE), said today.

"If India feels Pakistan and China should be kept out of Sri Lanka, New Delhi should have a degree of defence cooperation to ensure island's own security," he said.

Sitharthan, a former militant-turned-politician opposed to the LTTE, was on a fortnight-long tour to India along with Anandasangaree, President of Tamil United Liberation Front and T Sritharam of Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front, to drum up support for moderate Tamil parties in Sri Lanka.

‘LTTE responsible for 30,000 Tamil deaths’

V Anandasangaree, President of the moderate Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and one of the most senior Tamil leaders of Sri Lanka, has appealed to the political parties in Tamil Nadu to stop supporting the LTTE and protesting against the killing of the group's political commissar, SP Tamilselvan.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the veteran politician said that the people and the political parties in Tamil Nadu were not aware that the LTTE's unrealistic bid to secure an independent "Tamil Eelam" had already resulted in the sacrifice of 30,000 Tamil boys and girls generally hailing from poor families.

Overall, more than 70, 000 Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims had died and more than 30,000 widowed and orphaned, he noted. Muslims who were driven out from the North by the LTTE and robbed of all their belongings, were languishing in about 160 refugee camps for the past 17 years, seeing no light at the end of the tunnel, Anandasangaree pointed out.

Pointing an accusing finger at the LTTE's Supremo, Velupillai Prabhakaran, the moderate leader said: "I believe he has already sacrificed more than 20 thousand Tamil boys and girls, most of whom had been recruited forcibly against the protests of the parents. Every day, a good number of boys and girls are sent to the battlefront not to return alive. Apart from this, more than 10 thousand Tamils of other Tamil groups also had been killed by them (the LTTE)."

LTTE is back to zero - TULF leader

With the death of the LTTE's Political Wing Leader S. P. Thamilselvan, the Leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) Veerasingam Anandasangaree, the politician who had written the highest number of letters and pleas to the terrorists, has again requested the LTTE leadership to comeback to the negotiating table to save young lives.

In an interview with the Sunday Observer he said that the Tamil political parties are willing to help the LTTE if the terrorists end the armed struggle and entre the democratic stream. These youth have the courage to achieve whatever the deadly desires of the leadership risking their lives. So it is high time to use these valuable lives to develop the country. It is sad that they are sacrificing their lives for an unrealisable cause," he said.

Q: Despite severe defeats, yet there are no clues that the LTTE will enter the democratic path. In this climate do you think the only option to liberate Tamils is militarily weakening the LTTE?

A: I do not agree with you. One thing that I agree is that the LTTE would never come to the negotiating table because they have their own problems. They will not come for a settlement. The government's intention to beat them first and then come for talks would not help to end the problems of Tamils. Terrorism can be defeated by this way but what I hope is that the peace package must come out along with these military operations.

There are people in this country who say that once the problem is solved militarily and since the terrorists are defeated, that there is not problem for the Tamils. They will try to forget our grievances. The problems of Tamils were there for the last 50 years.
