LTTE attacks passenger bus; 3 civilians killed, 22 wounded






At least 3 civilians were killed and 22 others reported wounded when LTTE terrorists opened fire at a passenger bus plying from Monaragala towards Katharagama, at the 49th mile post along the Buttala-Katharagama main road, Friday (July 11), at around 10:15 a.m.

The injured civilians were initially rushed to the hospital at Katharagama and later they were transferred to the General hospital in Hambantota, the hospital sources said.

One soldier killed in claymore mine explosion at Galge

A claymore mine was triggered off targeting a troops carrying tractor at Galge along the Buttala old road this morning (March 8), defence sources report.

According to defence sources, the mine explosion was triggered in a jungle patch at Galge general area, around 9.45.a.m. Three soldiers have received injuries due to the explosion, sources said. Meanwhile, a soldier has succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment, according to latest reports received.

SLA and Police are now conducting extensive search operations in the area, defence sources further reported.

Three soldiers die in terrorist attack

Three soldiers who were on route picket duties died when terrorists attacked them in near Galge on Buttala - Kataragama road today (20) around 11.00 a.m.

In a confrontation terrorists have fled with their injured and the soldiers who rushed from the nearby Camp are pursuing them.

Brutal Buttala Killings Provide Path to Ultimate Victory Against Violence Leading to Peace

The attacks on civilians in Buttala with LTTE’s inherent brutal dimensions to it got damning condemnation from all over the world. The United States aid that the incident bears "all the hallmarks of the LTTE." European Union’s Colombo office stated that "this attack has all the characteristics of the LTTE’s modus operandi."

It added that no support can ever be gained in the EU through such acts of "barbaric terrorist violence." The time is opportune for the Sri Lankan government to show the world that while taking the path towards a decisive victory against the LTTE in all its deadly forms of violence, the problems of the Tamils are also being taken seriously.

The country is behind the Rajapakse government in their unerring militaristic assault on the Tigers and it must deliver also on the issue of a fair settlement of the governance issue and that Tamils and their problems are being generously addressed.
